Copal Tree Lodge, Belize is a fly fisher’s paradise, perched above the Rio Grande River and just a nine minutes upstream from the Caribbean Sea. You can cast for Tarpon and Snook on the river and in the mangroves, fish the flats for Permit, or when the weather allows, head out to the white sand beaches of the Sapodilla Cayes for Bonefish. The majority of the fishing takes place in protected marine reserves and national parks.
Prior to embarking on the first day of your Belizean flats fishing adventure, your guide will meet with you before dinner in the main lodge to review your fishing adventure. He will discuss the time and location for departure, gear required, and the possibilities and expectations for the day.
Each evening, you will be given a form to fill out requesting your choices on your morning wake up and in Room coffee service (optional), breakfast, lunch, and beverages.
For those wanting to focus specifically on Permit, then the waters of Southern Belize are definitely one of the finest in the world. Other species, such as Bonefish can be caught in the areas surrounding the outer reef islands (the Sapodilla Cayes) which are approximately and hour away. Bonefish on the outer cayes range between two and three pounds, but occasionally a four or five pounder can be found. The rivers of the region offer Snook, large Jacks and Tarpon which can range anywhere from 10 to 100 lbs. Tarpon can also be found on the flats year round.
In addition to the fishing opportunities, Belcampo also offers many other activities including; hiking, snorkelling and scuba diving, canoeing, horse riding, cookery courses and making use of the Spa.
